About the Sisters

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a worldwide order of 21st-century secular nuns dedicated to the promulgation of universal joy and the expiation of stigmatic guilt.

Since our founding in 1979 in San Francisco, the Sisters have been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ activism, social justice, and community support.

We use humour, drag, and irreverent wit to call attention to serious issues and to raise funds for various causes, all while promoting human rights, respect for diversity, and community.

Our mission

  • Promote Joy: We strive to spread happiness and positivity wherever we go. Our playful and flamboyant presence brings smiles and laughter to everyone we meet.

  • Fight Stigma: We work tirelessly to combat the stigmatisation of the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized groups. By being visible and outspoken, we challenge prejudice and ignorance.

  • Support the Community: Through fundraising, volunteering, and direct action, we support a wide range of causes, from HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention to mental health services and beyond.

  • Educate and Advocate: We educate the public on safer sex practices, health issues, and the importance of diversity and inclusion. We advocate for policies and initiatives that advance the rights of all people.

What we do

  • Events and Fundraisers: From glittering galas to community fairs, we participate in a variety of events to raise funds and awareness for important causes. Our events are always filled with fun, laughter, and a sense of unity.

  • Outreach and Education: We visit schools, community spaces, and public events to educate people on LGBTQ+ issues, safer sex practices, and the importance of community. Our goal is to inform and empower.

  • Community Support: We provide direct support to those in need through fundraising, volunteer work, and partnerships with other organizations. We believe in the power of community and the importance of helping one another.

Join us on our journey to make the world a more joyful, inclusive, and compassionate place. Together, we can make a difference!
